Covid 19 - What you need to know - New Inquiry launched

The All-Party Parliamentary Group for Hospitality and Tourism is launching an urgent inquiry to establish the best ways to support the recovery of businesses hit by COVID-19 – at the right time and in line with Government health advice.  The inquiry is entitled ‘Pathways to Recovery’. 

The inquiry will assess what is needed to get businesses in these sectors back on their feet at the right time for the country, providing forward-looking recommendations to guide government as it moves to thinking about recovery. It aims to publish its findings and report by the middle of May, well ahead of any expected planned reopening.

There will be four key themes:

• Government support
• Achieving business compliance
• Supply chain re-activation
• Stimulating demand for the sector

All-Party Parliamentary Group for Hospitality and Tourism chairman Steve Double said:

“Collectively, tourism and hospitality add about £80bn to the UK’s economy and in normal times employ 3.3 million people. These sectors were two of the first to feel the impact of first social distancing and then the lock-down and businesses have been hit hard in every region. It is vital, as the danger of coronavirus passes, these businesses are able to hit the ground running and return to full strength as rapidly as possible."

UK Hospitality is  calling on its members to contribute to the inquiry by answering a series of questions published on its website here (click on ‘PATHWAYS TO RECOVERY’).  Submissions are invited to be submitted to Richard Clifford at (rclifford@ukhospitality.org.uk.) The deadline for submissions will be May 1st at 5:00pm.
